Understanding Infertility: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment Options

For couples who have been trying to conceive for one year or more and cannot, infertility is a personal, sometimes painful experience.  Frustrating as it might be not to be able to have a child, medical progress brings hope and understanding.  Understanding the cause, symptoms, and treatment will enable you to take positive action toward making your dream of parenthood a reality. We at Ajanta IVF Centre strive to give couples loving care and professionalism every step of the way throughout their reproductive experience.

Common Causes of Infertility
Women and men become infertile due to other causes as well.
A woman can be out of whack with a hormone, thyroid, hyperprolactinemia, or PCOS that won't allow her to ovulate.

Endometriosis is the condition in which uterine tissue begins to grow in areas where it will become, causing pain, inflammation, and infertility. With occluded fallopian tubes, the sperm is unable to travel toward the egg, or the developed egg is unable to travel to the uterus. Men are made sterile by having fewer sperm, abnormally moving sperm, or fewer of a hormone called testosterone, all of which prevent sperm development. These, and many more, make the couple infertile and these are physical defects such as varicoceles and veins surrounding the scrotum that are abnormally formed.

Symptoms of Infertility and When to See a Doctor
There is a necessity to detect the symptoms of infertility beforehand so that diagnosis and treatment can be done in time. Women may have irregular, missing, or very painful periods; symptoms of hormonal imbalance such as excessive hair growth or weight gain; and inability to conceive after one year of regular unprotected sex (or six months if over 35 years). In men, the symptoms may manifest in the form of trouble in ejaculation, erections, alterations in the size or shape of the testicles that can be examined, and persistent lack of sexual desire or other hormonal imbalance symptoms. If there is no pregnancy within the time frame of the suggested age guidance, one must consult a medical doctor. If it is screened promptly, it usually diagnoses the cause and enables proper treatment.

Treatment Options for Infertility
Treatment of the cause of infertility will differ on whether it is a single treatment or greater than one treatment.  Medication like hormonal therapy and other medications are used to regulate ovulation in females and enhance sperm in males.  Conventional medicine is used to stimulate ovulation like Clomiphene citrate (Clomid). The most minimally invasive type of intrauterine insemination (IUI) is the direct placement of sperm in the uterus for additional fertility solutions.  In Vitro Fertilization, or IVF, is sperm and egg fertilization outside the human body and implanted embryos placed into the uterus.  IVF overall is indicated with severely low fertility or if other therapies fail. For the other conditions, surgery is required to overcome the structural defect of occlusion of the fallopian tubes, fibroma, or varicocele to cure infertility.

The Importance of Early Intervention
Most people underestimate the incidence of infertility, but it doesn't have to control your destiny.  Your odds of conception become much higher when you get an early diagnosis and treatment.  In the case of age-related issues, early treatment presents more available treatments and increases the likelihood of success.
