What is the treatment of kidney failure?Replace function of kidney either by Dialysis or by changing Kidney (Kidney Transplant)

Dialysis is of two Types

1. HaemodialysisThis form of dialysis removes waste products from the blood by Passing it out of body through a filtering system (dialysis) and returning it after purifying to the body by dialysis machine.

Blood is taken out of body from juglar femoral vessels or AV fistulas (Linking of artery to vein). The whole process takes 4-6 hours.

2. Peritoneal dialysisIn this method, blood instead of being purified by artificial membranes outside the body (Dialyzer or Dialysis machine), It is cleans inside the body through “Peritoneum” (a thin membrane inside abdomen). Dialysis fluid is passed into peritoneal cavity through catheter and then this fluid is taken out of abdomen.

CAPD (Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis) Happens through out the day at home or at work this takes 25-30 minutes

APD (Automated Peritoneal Dialysis)
This is done by machine.
